Judging by the (green) color

Hardly, I would say. After ending up as a political or economical legitimization for starting sustainable, green, or whatsoever activities in this field, I'm quite sure that it is hard. It's not complicated though. The most important rule is to do something you would do alone, knowing that no one will come to join you. Ever. And only talk about your ideas if you're asked to. No one likes an activist. We tend to think that good ideas will spread without any artificial help. And we might be right. Read on to find it out...

Bridging The Sustainability Gap

Nayyarar

A common theme in all sustainability issues is INEQUITY. Through my essay, I have shown how various existing gaps, whether they are: a) Demand/Supply b) Production/Consumption c) Developing/Developed Country d) Technology/Income can be overcome, if there is direct youth participation. It is important, I feel, to re-question accepted wisdom on how, what and how much we consume. I also believe that as young people, we can influence sustainable production more directly.

AWARENESS IS THE KEY TO SUSTAINABILITY

gorky

Today’s consumption is undermining the environmental resource base. In order to make this dream of a ‘Green Prosperous World’ come true, we will have to rely on our most valuable asset, the youth. Many of the best ideas come from young minds; the youth is, and must be, the builder of a new society. The youth can be most easily made aware of the grave environmental problems and once sensitized they can aware others more effectively than their elders because established anti-ecological ways of thinking and behaving are not ingrained in young people, and they can introduce fresh ideas and outlook to issues. Youth can undertake public awareness programs in their schools, nearby communities and rural neighborhoods to spread awareness. The participation of youth in environmental protection can be sought at levels ranging from grass-roots activism and participation in conservation projects to policy-making bodies and NGOs.
