Faced with increasing resource scarcity, how can young people contribute to the promotion of sustainable production and consumption?

Each candidate may summit only 1 essay.

  • All essays must be written in English.
  • Essays must be submitted as an A4 word document with all margins set at 3cm and using 11 point Arial font.
  • Essays must be no longer than 1,000 words.
  • Handwritten essays or essays presented in any other way will be disqualified.

Essays must be uploaded in pdf format. If the candidate does not have the necessary software to create pdf files, there are free conversion services available for use on the Internet.

The winner of the essay competition will receive a netbook HP Mini 210-1004.

AWARENESS IS THE KEY TO SUSTAINABILITY

Today’s consumption is undermining the environmental resource base. In order to make this dream of a ‘Green Prosperous World’ come true, we will have to rely on our most valuable asset, the youth. Many of the best ideas come from young minds; the youth is, and must be, the builder of a new society.

 

Waste Students

To wake up at 5 am and spend next 4 hours riding through streets of a big city in a dust car, to spend 8 hours every Saturday on sorting waste in municipal sorting plant, to meet with friends at a huge students music festival just to organize waste collection – impossible when you’re young and so many parties is waiting for you? “Impossible is nothing” to a group of students from Poland, a group of young people who can became great example of how can young people all over the globe contribute to the promotion of sustainable behaviors.

 

Success Behind the Crisis

My essay is based in my personal story on how I am managing to survive in college and finish my studies albeit of scarce resources I have. In my essay I pointed out that in every crisis one must make an opportunity from it make that opportunity worthwhile in your daily life. I emphasized that through sharing of resources our, scarcity in resources will be mitigated because all people get equal resources. I narrated my personal story in my essay on how scarcity of resources will not be hindrance for you to succeed in life.

 

Young People of Sustainable World

Young people of sustainable world are not only aware of resource scarcity but also time scarcity. Nowadays, young people waste their more of time at web sites of friendships, watching videos, doing gossips… on internet. So they do not notice real world problems. The SpaceSchool, which is an internet portal, thinks that each people in the world has information to teach or explain to others people as a teacher.

 

Youth Towards Sustainable Consumption

It has been estimated that if all people of the world were to consume like in the affluent countries, then the world need the equivalent of 4 extra Earths. Young people today play an important role in our consumer societies, and the habits they develop now will play a decisive role in the future consumption patterns. Therefore, they deserve special attention in efforts to change wasteful consumption patterns to more sustainable ones.

 

A life-changing experience

Through this essay, I tried to show the possibilities that young people have to get involved in the society. It is conceived as the story of a teenager, showing how she decided to lend a hand and what she did in order to help next generations. In my opinion, informing campaigns have an important role in the life of young people. It is hard to select the information found on the internet or seen at TV. This is why I consider that teenagers should be encouraged to be members of different associations or clubs.

 

Human and Nature

The overall economic effect of the storm was devastating. There is not distinguish between nature and human induced catastrophes, much of the increase appears to be due to catastrophes, including storms, brought and wild fires that caused by human activities.

 

Unlocking the power of innovation to promote sustainability

"Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you by your parents; it was loaned to you by your children." Kenyan proverb Young people who have access to information and are aware of the state of affairs will be part of the solution. The youth are not caught in yesterday’s thinking they will work towards a better tomorrow.We need to invest in green technologies, reduce our usage of fossil fuel, change consumption patterns, improve the way we and goods used by us travel, among many other things.

 

Sustainability: How to Have our Cake and Eat it Also

There is a middle ground between development and environmental/ resource conservation, where we can have the best of both. This middle ground is "sustainable development" and this essay highlights just how sustainability can allow us to develop, thus achieve economic success, as well as take care of the resources that are at our disposal with the aim of achieving continued production and consumption.

 

If not youth, who? If not now, when?

As technology is advancing rapidly in the 21st century, technology has not only brought convenience to citizens in modern life, but also encouraged innovations to entrepreneurships and commercial economics. With these advantages, no one takes any obligations to conserve the natural environment but takes it for granted. We all know what sustainability means. We all know and understand how to produce and consume sustainably, for instance, the easiest way, lessen the use of fossil fuels in producing and consuming which is healthy for both workers and the public. Why?
